Dining Hall & Meals

Our Dining Hall is located in the centre of our Main Lodge and is the hub for all group visits. It’s the space where everyone can gather together and share stories about all their exciting experiences while enjoying the breathtaking view out of the Dining Hall windows. Our professional Food Services team prepares and serves all meals.

Dining Hall

The Dining Hall is a shared space where, depending on numbers, many groups can come together during one meal time. To ensure everyone has a place to eat, each group will have a reserved set of tables for their participants.

Meals

A menu is created by our Food Service team on a monthly basis, taking into consideration which groups will be visiting, as well as any special needs or requirements we may be aware of. We are happy to share menus in advance of a group’s visit. If there are special considerations or allergy concerns, our Food Service is happy to work with group leaders on a case-by-case basis.

All of our meals are served through buffet windows by our Food Services team. In addition to the buffet windows, a salad bar is set up during all meals with additional items – vegetables from our farm (depending on the time of year), dessert, fruit, cold continental items at breakfast, etc.

Food Allergies & Dietary Restrictions

Food Allergies
In advance of your arrival, a Cedar Glen staff member will contact your group's leader to gather information regarding allergies for participants in the group. This information will then be given to our Food Services team who will plan the menu and any necessary accommodations accordingly.

We ask that participants with allergies identify themselves to our team in the kitchen when they come up to the window for their meal and our Food Services staff will confirm what the participant can/cannot eat. In some cases, there may be a special meal prepared in the back!

Should anyone in the group have an anaphylactic allergy, we also require group leaders to complete an ‘Emergency Plan’ for each participant with an anaphylactic allergy. This information will be kept on hand for easy access by all our staff members. A separate document will be provided to group leaders during the booking process.

Dietary Restrictions

We are happy to accommodate most dietary requirements. Special meals are commonly prepared to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, Halal (sourced from MINA), lactose-free and gluten-free diets, as well as other dietary requirements & sensitivities. Once the visit is booked, we will share a form with group leaders that they can use to capture and share the dietary requirements for their group.

It is helpful for us to know this information in advance of a group’s arrival so that we can ensure we are able to accommodate accordingly.

Meal Times

Our standard meal times are as follows:

  • Breakfast – 8:00 am to 9:00 am
  • Lunch –12:30pm to 1:10pm
  • Dinner –5:30pm to 6:10pm

Meal schedules are decided by our team and are based on the needs of your visit. Your meal times will be confirmed and shared with you in advance of your arrival.

Snacks

Snacks are generally a baked item and fruit. Any allergies or dietary restrictions for any participants will be accommodated for.

For groups that do not have outdoor programming with Cedar Glen staff in their schedule, they will be provided with a snack mid-morning, mid-afternoon and in the evening.
For groups that are participating in outdoor programming provided by Cedar Glen, a snack will be provided in the afternoon during program and in the evening, once programming concludes for the day.

Should anyone in the group have an anaphylactic allergy, we also require group leaders to complete an ‘Emergency Plan’ for each participant with an anaphylactic allergy. This information will be kept on hand for easy access by all our staff members. A separate document will be provided to group leaders during the booking process.

Nut Aware

YMCA Cedar Glen is a nut-aware site. This means, we do not serve nuts, peanuts, or bring any products that contain/may contain nuts into our kitchen. We also ask that all participants do not bring nut products on site. If nut products are found by our staff, we will ask that you remove or dispose of them accordingly.
